Hesse: civil servants' salaries are rising: the state parliament votes for the law

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The Hessian state parliament has given the green light for an increase in civil servants' salaries. According to the law passed by the government factions of the CDU and Greens in Wiesbaden on Thursday, state civil servants, judges and pensioners will each receive three percent more money on April 1, 2023 and January 1, 2024.

This increase applies in addition to the agreed wage and salary increase. More than 180,000 civil servants and pensioners will benefit from the regulation. The costs for the state of Hesse total around 657 million euros. The opposition in the state parliament and the trade unions demanded significantly more money and sharply criticized the law of the state government.

The Hessian Administrative Court had previously ruled that civil servants' salaries violated the Basic Law. Accordingly, the civil servants were not sufficiently paid from 2013 to 2020. However, the Federal Constitutional Court still has to make a binding decision on the future salary.
