Hesse: cook mistreated with hot soup: man should be in psychiatry

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - Because he is said to have attacked a chef in a fast food restaurant and scalded him with hot soup, a 37-year-old man is about to be placed in a psychiatric hospital. The public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt submitted a corresponding application to the regional court, said senior public prosecutor Nadja Niesen on Friday. The crime happened in August 2021 near the Nigerian Consulate General in downtown Frankfurt, where the 37-year-old had been banned shortly before.

Without warning, the man then stormed into the fast-food restaurant and attacked the chef, who was completely unknown to him. In addition to the soup, he is also said to have used a metal stove top. The cook suffered lacerations, a concussion and a broken rib. The public prosecutor originally determined because of attempted manslaughter. But because the attacker stopped of his own accord and thus withdrew from the attempt, the only legal possibility was dangerous bodily harm, said Niesen. Trial dates for the criminal court have not yet been set.
