Hesse: Corona incidence in Hesse drops to 190.5

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The corona incidence in Hesse continues to decline. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence nationwide was 190.5 on Tuesday after 216.1 a week ago. The number tells you how many new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were reported within seven days.

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts assume a high number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

The number of deaths related to Covid-19 totaled 11,602 on Tuesday, up 65 cases from a week earlier. In which cases Covid-19 was the main cause of death and in which cases the patients died of other diseases but were also infected with the corona virus is not usually clear from the information provided by the hospitals.

The incidence of hospitalization in Hesse has also continued to decrease, as reported by the Ministry of Social Affairs in Wiesbaden. This was 5.04 on Tuesday. A week earlier, the reading was 5.16. The hospitalization incidence indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants were newly admitted to hospitals with a corona infection within seven days.

According to data from the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi), there were 90 adult patients with Covid-19 in the intensive care units of the Hessian clinics on Tuesday. A week earlier it had been 97. Currently 38 had to be ventilated, a week ago it was 37.

Hesse is expected to lift the quarantine requirements for corona infected people this Wednesday due to the easing of the situation. Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein had previously waived at least five days of isolation in the event of a corona infection.
