Hesse: corruption scandal caused damage of ten million euros

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - According to current estimates, the corruption affair of the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office has caused damage of almost ten million euros. The new Minister of Justice Roman Poseck (CDU) said this in the legal committee in the state parliament on Thursday. A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice confirmed corresponding media reports on Friday. The damage was mainly caused by overpriced reports for investigations into possible medical fraud. The state treasury is affected, but also other parties involved in the process.

At the center of the affair is the former senior public prosecutor of the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office Alexander B. He is accused of commercial serious corruption, commercial infidelity in office and tax evasion. He is said to have accepted large sums of money from a company that prepares reports and provides experts.

A report by the State Audit Office also shows that there were deficits in the internal control of the judiciary. Accordingly, Hesse's public prosecutor's office has not sent a report on a cash audit to the responsible audit department of the Ministry of Justice for more than ten years. This emerges from the report presented to the Committee on Legal Affairs. Nobody in the ministry noticed. As a consequence of the affair, Minister of Justice Poseck wants to expand the audit and regularly check the expenditure of the judiciary.
