Hesse: deceptive calls trigger police action

Einhausen (dpa/lhe) - Two calls with threats and the reporting of a crime have triggered a major police operation in Einhausen in the Bergstraße district in southern Hesse. First of all, two calls were received at the Frankfurt police headquarters on Monday evening, in which a man threatened an act of amok and in the second telephone call told of a crime that had just taken place, as the police announced on Tuesday. The officials located the cell phone's apartment in Einhausen, from where the calls could have been made.

The homeowner expressed surprise and indicated that he was not connected to the calls. The on-site investigation also found no evidence that the calls came from his cell phone, it said. The police now assume that his cell phone number was technically manipulated by unknown perpetrators. The investigations are ongoing. A total of 13 patrol cars and rescue workers were involved in the operation.
