Hesse: DGB supports demands for excess profit tax

Frankfurt (dpa/lhe) - The Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB) Hessen-Thüringen supports demands for an excess profit tax, for example for mineral oil companies. "It is unacceptable that companies are cashing in on war and the crisis while at the same time the majority of the population is suffering from rising prices," said Chairman Michael Rudolph in Frankfurt on Thursday. He welcomes the fact that the Thuringian Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) is behind such demands. "And we expect the Hessian state government with its new Prime Minister Boris Rhein to do the same," explained Rudolph.

Ramelow had explained that Thuringia wanted to support Bremen's plans in the Bundesrat to tax special profits from mineral oil companies for a limited period of time. Bremen has announced such an application for June 10th.
