Hesse: Drinking water must continue to be boiled

Heppenheim (dpa/lhe) - Due to possible contamination with faecal bacteria, the drinking water must continue to be boiled in parts of the Bergstraße district in southern Hesse. According to the energy supplier Energieried on Thursday, the towns of Lampertheim, Neuschloß and Hüttenfeld are affected. According to the district, it is unclear how long the boil-off requirement will remain in place.

"Extensive water samples have already been taken at various points in the supply network in Lampertheim and Bürstadt and have already been analyzed accordingly," said a district spokeswoman in Heppenheim on request. Accordingly, the cause of the possible contamination with E-Coli bacteria is still unclear.

The utility advised consumers in the affected areas on Tuesday to boil their tap water for at least 10 minutes as a precaution if it is used for drinking or cooking. It can therefore be used as usual for personal hygiene and for flushing the toilet.
