Hesse: DRK: care facilities are well prepared for summer

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The German Red Cross (DRK) sees its care facilities in Hesse well prepared for the heat waves in summer. Since there have been longer periods of very high temperatures in recent years, the measures have been implemented, the DRK state association said at the request of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. The warnings from the German Weather Service would be sent to the facilities via newsletter.

The concepts would take effect from heat warning level one: The room temperatures in the care facilities would then be measured and documented daily. Particular attention is paid to ensuring that residents drink an adequate amount of fluid and that there is a supply of electrolytes. Outdoor activities tend to take place in the cooler evening hours. According to the DRK, there are also measures to cool the indoor climate: there is good ventilation in the mornings and evenings, the rooms are cooled by shutters and fans are installed.

The DRK announced that the situation was still tense when it came to supplying the clinics in Hesse with blood supplies. After the holiday weeks with many short trips among the population, the number of blood donations increased again somewhat. The situation in Hesse is currently threatening, especially with the particularly important blood group zero-negative. More blood donations are therefore important, especially with a view to the upcoming summer holidays.
