Hesse: Fast internet for Hessian hospitals

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Almost all hospitals from the Hessian hospital plan have a fast internet connection. Of the 128 hospitals in total, 123 now have a gigabit-capable connection, said Digital Minister Kristina Sinemus (CDU) at the request of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. The connection is in preparation for a further three facilities. The remaining two hospitals have broadband coverage of at least 100 megabits per second.

The principles of hospital care are regulated in the Hessian hospital plan. In addition to patient and needs-based justice, it is also about the variety of carriers. According to the ministry, the planned hospitals are the backbone of inpatient care in Hesse. They carry the emergency care and have thus been included in the Hessian hospital plan.

Large amounts of data are required for many work processes in hospitals, which can only be realized with a fast Internet connection, emphasized the Minister for Digital Affairs. This applies, for example, to mobile ultrasound devices that transmit images in real time to the doctor's cell phone or high-resolution transmission that allows a quick and precise initial diagnosis.

High data rates with fast Internet are also important for the use of telemedicine, so that doctors can look at an X-ray together, make a diagnosis or get a second opinion via video conference. The need for digital applications is also increasing in the non-medical sector in order to automate processes such as the monitoring and control of storage systems or the regulation of heating and electricity consumption.
