Hesse: father in a coma after a beating attack: son should be in psychiatry

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - After the severe abuse of his father, a 33-year-old is to be permanently housed in a psychiatric ward. The public prosecutor's office applied for this on Tuesday before the Frankfurt Regional Court. The accused is responsible for the fact that the 60-year-old fell into a permanent coma for weeks after the beating attack in April 2022 in the shared apartment in Frankfurt. Six weeks later, the father died of a heart attack, which - according to the prosecutor - was not a result of the beating.

Originally, the public prosecutor's office assumed a connection and thus a manslaughter. According to a note from the jury, only attempted manslaughter and serious bodily harm can be considered as allegations: the alleged abuse did not lead to the death, but to the victim's infirmity. The prosecutor said the 33-year-old posed a danger to the public, which justified his placement in a psychiatric ward.

The accused had reported in court, among other things, about inner voices that had prompted him to commit the act of violence. The court is expected to announce the verdict next Monday (12:00 p.m.). (Az: 3690 Js 221528/22)
