Frankfurt (dpa/lhe) - When extinguishing a fire in an apartment building in Frankfurt, firefighters found a dead woman. She was in the ground floor apartment where the fire broke out on Sunday, according to the fire department. The emergency services were informed by an emergency call that at least one person was still in the fire apartment in the four-storey house.
When the rescue workers arrived, the stairwell of the building was completely filled with smoke, the flames had hit it through an open apartment door. At windows on the second and third floors, people whose escape route was cut off by the stairwell would have made themselves noticed. They were rescued, among other things, by a turntable ladder.
Three residents were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. All eight apartments in the house in the Bockenheim district are currently uninhabitable, it said. The cause of the fire and the circumstances that led to the woman's death are still being determined.
