Hesse: First promised marriage, then pushed into prostitution

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - A 28-year-old who first promised a young woman a future together and then pushed her into prostitution has been sentenced to a suspended sentence of 18 months. In Wednesday's decision, the Frankfurt district court saw serious forced prostitution in addition to physical harm and pimping. The 28-year-old accused used "cunning and deception" to pretend his love and affection to the 21-year-old.

Men who pretend to be in love with their victims for a while and then force them into prostitution are called "loverboys".

The now 21-year-old worked as a prostitute in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel to secure a future together with the man. When she learned that he was already in a relationship with another woman and that they had a child together, she defied his instructions. This was met with abuse and threats.

It was only after several months that the woman managed to escape with the help of a women's rights organization. The defendant made a lengthy confession in court. The testimony of the currently untraceable woman was therefore not required. The bail of 3,000 euros he deposited was awarded to the victim. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
