Hesse: Five wolf puppies detected in the Stölzinger mountains

Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Five wolf pups have been detected in the Stölzing Mountains. A wildlife camera near Waldkappel in the Werra-Meißner district recorded the animals in a video in July, the Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) announced on Monday in Wiesbaden.

According to the information, it was initially unclear who the parents of the five puppies are. The presence of a resident female wolf with the laboratory code GW1409f was last confirmed in October 2021, another female (GW1873f) was detected in March. However, this could only have been in the area temporarily. According to HLNUG, there are no genetic samples from a male so far, but pictures from a camera trap show a male animal. The Wolf Center Hessen is now taking care of the question of who the parents of the five puppies are.

Wolf pups are usually born in early May, so HLNUG estimates the animals were about three months old at the time of the video. Previously, there were offspring on the Hessian-Bavarian border: a photo trap at the Wildflecken military training area recorded a she-wolf with offspring in July.
