Hesse: Floating documenta art project "citizenship" is stuck

Rinteln/Kassel (dpa/lhe) - The floating documenta art project "citizenship" had to interrupt its trip to Kassel because the water level in the Weser was too low. "The citizenship will spend the current dry season at the pier of the 1st MC Wolfsburg at the Doktorsee near Rinteln," said a spokeswoman. The organizers from the Berlin Center for Art and Urbanistics hope to be able to drive the remaining 200 kilometers to Kassel in September.

The roof construction of a former warehouse that has been converted into a raft has already traveled 400 kilometers across various rivers. Art and culture projects with local clubs and schools have been organized time and again along the route.

The boat, which left Berlin in early June, was originally supposed to reach documenta fifteen in Kassel within 55 days. Due to a leak, the "citizenship" had already briefly interrupted its voyage at the end of June. Alongside the Venice Biennale, the documenta is the most important presentation of contemporary art.
