Hesse: Frankfurt Christmas market ends: Balance rather positive

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - At the end of the Frankfurt Christmas market, the organizers drew a predominantly positive balance. Almost 2.2 million visitors came in almost four and a half weeks, as reported by Tourismus und Congress GmbH Frankfurt (TCF) on Wednesday. Thus, the level of 2019 was not quite reached, but at the last edition before the pandemic, the number of visitors was still around 2.5 million. This year's Christmas market ends on Thursday (December 22nd).

"Last year, the Christmas market was only half as busy with around one million people - also due to the pandemic measures," it said. The wintry weather was also good this year. "Under the aforementioned conditions, the Christmas market closes as a success," declared the organizers. Frankfurt's head of economics, Stefanie Wüst, also spoke of an "important ray of hope in difficult times".

The Frankfurt Christmas market is one of the oldest and largest in Germany. Framed by the backdrop of the Römerberg and Paulskirche, more than 200 stands invited you to take a long stroll.

According to the TCF, the showmen and women were also satisfied: "Even if money is not quite as easy as in previous years in the current difficult economic times, the demand for Christmas treats and gift ideas was still high."
