Hesse: "Fulda is cross" receives the Regine Hildebrandt Prize

Berlin/Fulda (dpa/lhe) - The initiative "Fulda opposes itself" was awarded the SPD's Regine Hildebrandt Prize on Saturday. In its projects, the association combines the peaceful and at the same time determined defensiveness of strong democrats with political education and social enlightenment, said SPD Chairwoman Nancy Faeser at the award ceremony. The group from Fulda says they want to contribute to raising awareness about anti-Semitism, xenophobia and right-wing tendencies in society.

In addition to "Fulda stands across", the "Miniaturstadt Bützow" (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania), "Grandmothers Against Right" (Rhineland-Palatinate), the "Kulturfabrik Hoyerswerder" (Saxony), the "Bike Tour for Homeless People" (Berlin) and the "Jamel rocks the Förster Festival - with culture for democracy and tolerance" (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) received the award. It was awarded this year for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022, as no award ceremony was allowed to take place in the past two years due to the corona pandemic. Fulde received the prize for 2020.

With the award, the SPD commemorates the social democrat Regine Hildebrandt, who died in 2001. She was known for her social commitment and clear words. Since 2002, awards have been given to people and groups who are committed to the internal unity of Germany, work against right-wing extremism and violence or stand up for peace, freedom and social justice.
