Münzenberg (dpa/lhe) - After repair work due to frost damage on Autobahn 5 at the busy Gambacher Kreuz, one lane was reopened to traffic on Friday afternoon. The West branch of the federal Autobahn GmbH in Wiesbaden announced that the second lane should probably be open to traffic again from Saturday night. The autobahn was closed in the direction of Kassel from 8 a.m. in the morning. Traffic has been diverted. Many motorists drove away from the detour route in Butzbach, where traffic was backed up for several kilometers.
According to the highway company, the frost damage occurred during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The road is to be completely renovated in both directions next year, with construction work scheduled between April and December.
