Hesse: Gastronomy hopes for good business in the Advent season

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The gastronomy in Hesse is hoping for good business for the first Advent season in two years without restrictions caused by the pandemic. "But we will probably not reach the level that we had before the corona pandemic," said the managing director of the Hessian Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) in Wiesbaden, Julius Wagner. At that time, many companies and private individuals had booked the location for their Christmas party every year by September at the latest, in the past two years these have mostly been canceled due to the pandemic.

Reservations can now be made, but there can be no talk of a rush. According to Wagner, the companies in particular are very reticent. "Because of inflation, they keep a close eye on money and see where they can save. And that often affects Christmas parties, too." For private households, the picture is rather mixed. Of course, the financial situation also plays a role there, but there are also many people who said to themselves: "It's Christmas, let's treat ourselves."

Last summer, the turnover of the Hessian hospitality industry was still 20 percent below that of 2019, according to a Dehoga survey, in autumn the companies recorded a minus of 15 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
