"The answer to the shortage of skilled workers is the expansion of paid training capacities and more attractive working conditions," said the chairman of the Education and Science Union (GEW), Thilo Hartmann, on Tuesday in Frankfurt. The crediting of non-skilled workers to the staff ratio devalues the work of qualified teachers and is also not in the interests of parents and children.
The President of the Hessian Association of Towns and Municipalities, Matthias Baass (SPD), justified his initiative with a pilot project in Dietzenbach in southern Hesse with everyday helpers, which was very successful. According to Baass, 15 to 20 percent of the workforce in a kindergarten could consist of non-skilled workers without jeopardizing the quality of care.
