Hesse: Goethe badge to musicians and scientists

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - This year the Goethe Plaque from the city of Frankfurt goes to the musician Sabine Fischmann and the scientist Volker Mosbrugger. Both would have "done a lot for Frankfurt," said Ina Hartwig (SPD), Head of the Department of Culture, explaining the magistrate's decision on Friday. The singer, born in 1974, has lived in Frankfurt since 1994 and performs there regularly. The 68-year-old paleontologist Mosbrugger is director of the research institute of the famous Senckenberg Museum.

The magistrate has already made a decision for the coming year: one of the two Goethe plaques should then go to the performance artist Anne Imhof, who was born in 1978.

Hesse's largest city honors personalities from cultural life with the Goethe Plaque. The best-known sponsors include the philosopher and composer Theodor W. Adorno, the publisher Peter Suhrkamp and the literary critic Marcel Reich-Ranicki.
