Hesse: Great city bell sounds in Frankfurt

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - On Christmas Eve from 5 p.m. in Frankfurt, the traditional Great City Bell sounded again. The 50 bells of the ten inner-city churches rang for about half an hour. The opening was made by the citizens' bell of the Paulskirche, the highlight of the ringing is always the ringing of the nine bells of the Kaiserdom, among them the Gloriosa, which is over two meters high and weighs almost 12,000 kilograms. The ringing of all bells dates back to 1347. The concept of the Great Town Bell with a tuning of the sounds has existed since 1954. The next time all the bells will ring again on Holy Saturday.
