Hesse: Great demand for 9-euro tickets: "started well"

A public transport association advertises a month of local public transport for less than four sausages. The demand for the 9-euro tickets is high. In the meantime, nothing works when booking the train online.

Frankfurt/Darmstadt (dpa/lhe) - Great demand for cheap tickets in local public transport: With the start of nationwide sales of the 9-euro ticket, there is also great interest in Hesse. "In Hesse, the sale of cheap monthly tickets has started very well," said a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn on Monday at the request of the German Press Agency. Nationwide, around 50,000 tickets were sold in the early hours of the morning alone via the Deutsche Bahn channels.

The local transport provider HEAG mobilo, which started selling on Saturday, spoke of more than 2,000 tickets sold within 24 hours at its sales outlets in Darmstadt alone on Saturday. A spokesman said there was a lot of interest. The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund advertised: "One month of public transport for less than four sausages."

The online booking at the train was temporarily overloaded on Monday. The homepage said: "Dear customer, at the moment too many users are accessing our booking system at the same time. Please try again later."

The monthly card is supposed to be a reaction to the sharp rise in energy prices from June to August. The Bundestag gave the green light for this last Thursday and the Bundesrat on Friday. You can travel nationwide on all buses, trams, subways, suburban trains and local and regional trains. The long-distance traffic with ICE, Intercity and Eurocity, the green Flix trains and long-distance buses cannot be used. The ticket is only valid for 2nd class.

A purchased ticket is always valid until the end of a month. It can also be purchased in advance for every three months. Among other things, the federal government is providing the federal states with 2.5 billion euros to compensate for the loss of income from transport providers.

There are concerns about overcrowded buses and trains. Since the ticket falls during the holiday season, many people could use it for trips out. "In addition to the leisure lines and additional trips offered in summer, RMV has once again expanded the capacity on numerous S-Bahn and regional train lines," the RMV announced after the Federal Council's decision.
