Hesse: Gustaf Nilsson leaves Wehen Wiesbaden for Belgium

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Third division soccer team SV Wehen Wiesbaden and Gustaf Nilsson are going their separate ways with immediate effect. As the Hessians announced on Wednesday, the Swede joins the Belgian runners-up Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer terms. "Gustaf can play at least the Europa League, if not the Champions League, in Belgium and would like to seize this great opportunity. In the end we found a solution that satisfies all sides," said managing director Nico Schäfer.

The transfer is a push into a new dimension for the club, but Nilsson's departure hurts both personally and athletically. "However, it was clear to us early on that Gustaf would be very difficult to keep, so the search for alternatives is not just beginning now," said Schäfer. Nilsson switched to SVWW on a free transfer during the 20/21 winter break. The 25-year-old striker scored 18 goals for the Hessians in 45 third division games. At the start of the season on Monday evening, he scored to make it 1-0 in a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund's reserves.
