Hesse: Hesse's economy sees high burdens due to the gas levy

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The Hessian Chamber of Industry and Commerce warns of high financial burdens for companies in view of the gas levy. Energy costs had long since reached a dangerous level, said President Kirsten Schoder-Steinmüller on Monday. "Compared to the long-term average, companies are currently paying about five times as much for gas procurement and four times as much for electricity procurement." Not all companies could pass these costs on to their customers.

"The gas procurement levy will further fuel inflation," Schoder-Steinmüller feared. The surcharge should be 2.4 cents per kilowatt hour. It is still unclear whether additional VAT will be due. With the levy, increased procurement costs are passed on by importers to customers. "The state of Hesse should greatly simplify the fuel switch from gas to other energy sources," explained Schoder-Steinmüller. "The so-called fuel switch is still being slowed down by lengthy bureaucratic approval procedures."
