Hesse: HR control bodies should get more support

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The members of the Broadcasting Council and the Board of Directors of the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation are to be given professional support in their supervisory and control functions in the future with a new office. A corresponding amendment to the Hessian Broadcasting Act (HR Act) was passed in the state parliament in Wiesbaden on Thursday evening. There are already numerous protective mechanisms in HR, including a four-eyes principle when concluding transactions and an internal control system, said Digital State Secretary Patrick Burghardt (CDU) in the state parliament. However, the discussion surrounding the RBB scandal has shown that the bodies themselves require professional expertise in their independence.

At the center of the scandal surrounding Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) are the director Patricia Schlesinger, who was fired without notice, and the resigned chief controller Wolf-Dieter Wolf. Since the end of June, allegations of nepotism and cronyism have been reported in the media, both of which have rejected the allegations. The Berlin Attorney General is investigating.
