Hesse: Injured after suspected gas leak in apartment building

Eltville (dpa / lhe) - During a rescue operation in an apartment building in Eltville in the Rheingau-Taunus district, eleven people are believed to have suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning. Six firefighters and three rescue workers were among the injured, the police said on Thursday. On Wednesday afternoon, the rescue service first called the fire brigade to carry a resident who could not walk himself. Since another resident and the rescue workers complained of being unwell during the course of the operation, the fire brigade cleared the house. The suspicion: gas leakage.

The warning and measuring devices showed no evidence of a gas leak, according to the police. A possible cause is suspected to be a gas accumulation in the room, which was later no longer measurable due to the opening of the windows at the start of the operation.

A total of eleven people came to hospital for treatment, six of whom were firefighters who have already been released. Nothing was initially known about the condition of the rest of those affected.
