Hesse: Iranians in exile protest in Frankfurt against the Tehran regime

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - Several dozen Iranian exiles protested against the regime in Tehran on the eve of International Women's Day in front of the Center for Islamic Culture in Frankfurt. They showed solidarity with the women's protest in Iran. According to a dpa reporter, there were less than 100 participants. At the same time, they protested against the center, which they accused of having close ties to Tehran.

One demonstrator said anti-Israel messages and homophobia were being spread in the Friday prayers at the Frankfurt center, which are also available online. "This is not a protest against Islam or against Muslims, but against the interpretation of Islam by the Iranian ayatollas," said another participant.

Pictures of participants in the protests in Iran who were executed or killed during demonstrations were posted in front of the permanent vigil. The fate of the German-Iranian Jamshid Sharmahd, who was sentenced to death in Iran, was also remembered.
