Hesse: Kai Klose: contradiction solution for organ donation makes sense

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Hesse's Health Minister Kai Klose (Greens) has spoken out in favor of a new attempt at a contradiction solution for organ donations. "Unfortunately, the lack of organ donation is particularly pronounced in Germany," said Klose on Friday in Wiesbaden, referring to the day of organ donation this Saturday (June 4). "I supported the opt-out solution two years ago and I continue to support it, because the basic willingness to donate organs is significantly higher than the number documented with organ donor cards."

The objection solution means that people without an organ donor card can also become donors if they have not expressly objected to this. This regulation had not found a majority in the Bundestag at the beginning of 2020.

Currently, the consent of donors or their relatives is required. According to Minister Klose, more than 560 patients in Hesse are currently waiting for a donor organ. From January to April of this year, organs from 13 deceased people in the state were donated.
