Hesse: Kassel Airport has good capacity utilization

Calden (dpa/lhe) - Lack of staff, long queues, flight cancellations: While there is currently chaos at many airports, it's "business as usual" at Kassel Airport. The regional airport in Calden (Kassel district) announced that a relaxed holiday start with the usual lead times is still possible there. The airport was satisfied with the current occupancy: "Almost all aircraft are well filled or almost fully booked," said press spokeswoman Natascha Gaebelein.

Kassel Airport occasionally feels the current developments at other airports due to delays in the arriving planes. However, he cannot contribute to their relief. "Unfortunately, short-term rebookings of flights to other airports are not so easy, since these are planned into route networks, crew times have to be adhered to and so on," explained Gaebelein.

Regular flights depart from Kassel Airport to Mallorca, Fuerteventura, Rhodes, Heraklion and Hurghada in Egypt. There are also flights to the islands of Sylt and Usedom. With 68 percent, the state of Hesse is the largest shareholder in the regional airport, which has been in deficit since it opened in 2013. Other shareholders are the city and district of Kassel, each with 14.5 percent. The municipality of Calden holds three percent.
