Hesse: lack of snow and mild temperatures: no skiing

Willingen/Poppenhausen (dpa/lhe) - A lack of snow and mild temperatures of around 4 to 9 degrees are currently preventing fun on the slopes in the Hessian ski areas. “We have to stop skiing for the time being from today. Unfortunately, skiing is no longer possible at the moment,” said those responsible in the Willingen ski area in northern Hesse (Waldeck-Frankenberg district) on Friday. The children's area on the village green is still open up to and including Sunday, where skiing on artificial snow is possible. The summer toboggan run is also open daily from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., and the Ettelsberg cable car also runs daily from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. for pedestrians.

In the ski and toboggan arena on Hesse's highest mountain, the Wasserkuppe, guests can currently only use the Rhönbob summer toboggan run, while the traffic lights on the ski slopes are red. It's the same on the Hoherodskopf in the Vogelsberg - the two slopes Rennwiese and Breungeshainer Hang as well the ski rentals are currently closed.
