Hesse: Land: More money for German courses for refugees

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Hesse is increasing its budget for German courses, including for war refugees from Ukraine, by another million euros. This was announced by State Secretary for Integration Anne Janz (Greens) on Tuesday in Wiesbaden. In April of this year, the funds for the state program "MitLanguage – Deutsch4U" were increased by one million euros against the background of the Ukraine war. Now around 4.7 million euros are available instead of the originally planned 2.7 million euros.

Janz explained that the courses are open to all adults who need support in learning German, regardless of their country of origin. The offer was intended to avoid long waiting times for a language course. Not all refugees have direct access to federal services. "A quick and good introduction to the German language is of fundamental importance for the successful integration of refugees," explained Janz. "Deutsch 4U" courses were often used to prepare for further language courses, for example the federal integration courses.
