Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The processing time for parental allowance applications has increased significantly in Hesse. In the first quarter of the current year, i.e. from January to March 2022, it was 50 calendar days, said Minister of Social Affairs Kai Klose (Greens) in response to a parliamentary question from the SPD parliamentary group in Wiesbaden. The average processing time for applications was 34 days in 2019, 37 days in 2020 and 45 days in 2021. The number of applications for parental allowance has also recently increased - from 80,381 (2019) to 79,909 (2020) to 82,587 (2021).
The Minister of Social Affairs cited the corona pandemic as a reason for the development. A lack of staff due to illness, quarantine or a lack of childcare also had an impact on the processing times. The application of the changed Corona special regulations for the application for parental allowance with a more complex determination of income also led to more complex processing.
