Hesse: Lottery year in Hesse with record profits and oddities

Even if it wasn't always the record sum of 45 million euros: More than a dozen Hessian lottery players guessed six correct ones in 2022. In a live draw this year, the replacement device was in demand.

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Last year, 14 lottery players from Hesse were happy about six correct numbers. A player also cracked the jackpot at 6aus49 in mid-April and pocketed 45 million euros - since then he has held the German winnings record for this betting game, as a spokeswoman for Lotto-Hessen in Wiesbaden said when asked by dpa. The remaining prizes for six correct numbers were between 7.5 million euros and around 320,500 euros.

13 people tapped into millionaires at Lotto Hessen in 2022, compared to 19 in 2021. Among other things, at the end of August, a player from the Bergstrasse district won more than 20 million euros in the Eurojackpot, as the gambling provider announced.

There were also curious things about the draws, for example when the numbers for winning a 45 million jackpot were to be determined live in Saarbrücken in mid-January. The balls initially rolled into the lottery drum, but it did not turn, as Lotto Hessen reported. In coordination with the supervisory officer, a replacement device of the same construction was used. That worked without any problems, but the jackpot remained untouched.

The very first 6aus49 draw on January 1, 2022 caused a surprise due to an unusual series of numbers. The 10 fell out of the drum, the four of a kind 13, 14, 15, 16 and the 24. Two tipsters from Lower Saxony had all six numbers drawn on the lottery ticket, as Lotto Hessen announced.

At the beginning of January 2022, the 300th project was funded by the environmental lottery. The historical and local history association Metze in the North Hessian Schwalm-Eder district was happy to receive more than 5,000 euros to preserve meadow orchards. According to the information, around 350 environmental projects have received money since the launch of the exact lottery in 2016.

There was also an important change at Lotto Hessen GmbH last year. Martin Blach has been the new managing director since July. He replaced Heinz-Georg Sundermann, who was retired. Blach had previously headed the Landesstiftung Kloster Eberbach, based in the Rheingau, since 2008.
