Hesse: Marburg celebrates its birthday: the federal road becomes a festival mile

Marburg (dpa/lhe) - The city of Marburg is celebrating its 800th birthday and is having celebrations on the B3 federal highway. The four-lane road will be closed in the city area this Sunday over a length of around 2.5 kilometers. Visitors can expect a varied program on one side of the road at a huge birthday table with more than 800 tables and several stages. On the other hand, there should be room for alternative mobility concepts to match the International Environment Day. Depending on the weather, the town in central Hesse is expecting up to 30,000 guests.

This year Marburg is celebrating the 800th anniversary of its first mention as a city. The celebration will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. under the motto "Tischlein deck dich". The B3 will be closed to traffic in both directions between Marburg-Süd and Cölbe/Wehrda from 5 a.m. in the morning and until 1 a.m. at night. Detours will be signposted.
