Hesse: Minister: Allow all students to participate in class trips

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Hesse's Minister of Education, Alexander Lorz (CDU), does not fear the exclusion of children and young people from the increase in the upper cost limit for school trips. It is the responsibility of the schools to enable all students to participate and to only carry out multi-day class trips if the class trips have been coordinated between teachers, parents and students, the minister explained in response to a parliamentary question from the SPD parliamentary group in Wiesbaden. In addition, it is generally possible for families with low incomes to assume the costs through the education and participation package of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

The Ministry of Education had doubled the cost ceilings for school trips by decree: Multi-day excursions, hiking days or final trips can now cost up to 600 euros in Germany and 900 euros abroad. Lorz emphasized the importance of school trips for the educational mission of schools. The children and young people would gain new experiences and the sense of community would be strengthened. International exchanges and encounters also gave the students insights into foreign cultures and promoted language education and intercultural skills.
