The 873 local courts in the state are an important link between official institutions, voluntary work and cost-effective citizen proximity, said the minister on Tuesday in the Hessian state parliament in Wiesbaden at a question time. "I will work to preserve and strengthen the historically grown local courts and to give them support."
In order to reward the local courts appropriately, an increase in fees by 20 percent from the beginning of 2023 is planned, Poseck announced. In addition, further education and training courses are to be organized and the IT equipment of the local courts improved. "Good working conditions must be created for the local courts," stressed the Minister of Justice.
Local courts do not enact justice, but are intended to provide assistance to citizens and authorities, for example when estimating property values. If you use a local court, you have to pay a fee for the service. The members of local courts are appointed on the proposal of the municipalities. The term of office is ten years. Every Hessian town or municipality has at least one such contact point.
