Hesse: Municipalities want to strengthen trade with the "Heimat Shoppen" campaign

Seligenstadt (dpa/lhe) - The "Home Shopping" campaign is intended to encourage Hesse to shop more in their home community or to go out. 126 cities and municipalities across the state are taking part in the initiative, as announced by the Hessian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HIHK) on Saturday. The nationwide campaign is being initiated by the chambers of industry and commerce, supported by trade associations, administrations and business development agencies.

The patron in Hesse, Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir, explained during a visit to tradespeople and restaurateurs in Seligenstadt am Main: "Retail trade, gastronomy and numerous services in our town centers and inner cities are an important pillar of the Hessian economy." Busy inner cities made spontaneous encounters possible. Citizens strengthened their local retailers when shopping - in contrast to online shopping.

HIHK President Kirsten Schoder-Steinmüller explained: "It's worth shopping and eating out at home." The companies provide jobs and training. In addition, they contribute significantly to the financing of the cities and municipalities with their trade taxes.
