Hesse: New track 19 years after robbery: witnesses wanted

Gießen/Reiskirchen (dpa/lhe) - Almost 19 years after a brutal robbery in central Hesse, investigators are reopening the "cold case" and also relying on the help of witnesses. Thanks to modern investigation and evaluation options, a new "promising lead" has emerged, which is now being intensively pursued, the Gießen police and public prosecutor announced on Wednesday. The new investigative approach promises to finally be able to clarify the case.

At the beginning of January 2004, according to investigators, three masked men attacked a 27-year-old manager of a discotheque in Reiskirchen. They ambushed the man at his apartment in the morning, overpowered him and forced him into the back seat of his car. Then the perpetrators drove the man's car to the disco. They took the key to a safe from their victim, stole a mid-five-figure sum of money, and left the manager tied up. The man was able to free himself and call the police.

The following investigations did not lead to any hot leads, but the case had been looked at again and again over the years, it said. Now the police and prosecutors are building, among other things, on images from a nightclub surveillance camera, which are said to show two of the perpetrators. They hope that witnesses can provide information on this.

The public prosecutor's office and the police did not give any further details or details about their new lead. They justified this with "investigative tactical reasons".
