Hesse: Noise maps for Hesse updated

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) has updated the noise maps for Hesse. The results of the most recent calculation of ambient noise can now be called up via the online platform "laerm.hessen.de".

According to this, the number of people exposed to noise from road traffic, rail traffic or industrial plants has more than doubled since the last survey in 2017. The reason for this, however, is a newly prescribed basis for calculation, as the HLNUG announced on Friday in Wiesbaden.

According to the EU Environmental Noise Directive, environmental noise has had to be mapped every five years since 2007. The HLNUG is responsible for this in Hesse. The results are the essential basis for noise action planning by the regional councils in Darmstadt, Gießen and Kassel.
