Hesse: Number of deportations from Hesse largely constant

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The number of deportations from Hesse remained largely constant in the first months of 2022. By May 31, 456 people had been deported, the Interior Ministry said at the request of the German Press Agency. In the same period of the previous year, there were only a little more at 479. The figures include both deportations to the countries of origin and to a third country in the EU where the asylum seeker was first registered.

The most common nationalities of the deported people were Turkish, Algerian, Afghan, Serbian and North Macedonian. According to the Ministry of the Interior, there are currently 14 people in the deportation facility in Darmstadt.

In Hesse, however, the number of women and men who are required to leave the country has increased further. It was 17,240 as of May 31, 16,718 at the end of last year and 15,490 a year earlier.

According to a request last year, the total funds for the return of the refugees at the Hessian regional councils was more than 15 million euros. In 2019 it was more than 17 million and in 2015 a good 8 million euros, said Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) when asked by the AfD. Between 2015 and 2021, 23,355 people left the country voluntarily. Whether these people were required to leave the country or not is not recorded.
