Hesse: Other municipalities are taking part in the security initiative

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - A further 26 cities and municipalities joined the Hessian security initiative "Kompass" in 2022. People should not only live in one of the safest federal states, but also feel safe in Hesse, Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) told the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. For this purpose, local security partnerships were created with "Kompass".

At the turn of the year, 135 towns and municipalities in Hesse belonged to the security initiative. According to the Minister of the Interior, more than three million citizens now benefit from individual security solutions in their city or community. More than 50 other municipalities have already applied to take part.

The aim of the program is to optimize security and the subjective sense of security on the doorstep in the network of police, municipalities and citizens. Important building blocks of "Kompass" (KOMmunalProgrAmm Security Seal) are video surveillance, the police on site and the voluntary police service.

There is now better networking between the security partners in the municipalities, the minister explained. "In addition, we in the Kompass municipalities know exactly what the local security situation is and, thanks to our local citizen surveys, we also know the rooms and places where people feel less safe or even unsafe."
