Hesse: Over 3300 searches in the fight against child abuse

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - In the fight against child abuse and child pornography, there have been over 3,300 searches in Hesse by investigators from the "BAO Focus" unit over the past two years. 46 arrest warrants were executed, as the Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday to the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden.

More than 49,000 data carriers such as computers, notebooks, game consoles, DVDs and CDs as well as mobile phones and USB sticks were secured during the investigation. Identification measures were taken for 1,260 suspects. According to the ministry, around 900 suspects were questioned immediately after the search. The accused are mainly accused of sexual abuse of children or the acquisition and possession of child and youth pornography.

Since October 2020, the "BAO Focus" (special organizational structure for cross-case organizational structure against child pornography and sexual abuse of children) has been bundling and intensifying police measures against child abuse and child pornography in Hesse. Nationwide, more than 300 investigators work in the unit.

Minister of the Interior Peter Beuth and Minister of Justice Roman Poseck (both CDU) will meet specialists from the internal police unit "BAO Focus" at the Hessian State Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden this Monday.
