Hesse: Pact for the future of mobile communications: One third of the measures implemented

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Hesse is making further progress in expanding mobile communications in the state. Of the 4,000 expansion measures agreed in the future mobile communications pact, 1,333 had already been implemented in the state by autumn 2022, Digital Minister Kristina Sinemus (CDU) told the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. As a result, at least 180 new cell phone sites could have been created in Hesse and contributed to further network densification.

The state government signed the pact for the future in early 2022 together with the three mobile network operators Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica Deutschland and Vodafone. Above all, 4,000 additional expansion and expansion measures for cell phone sites to increase network density were agreed by the end of 2024. The agreement follows on from the Hessian mobile communications pact from 2018.

The digital minister emphasized that the mobile network in Hesse is becoming increasingly dense and efficient. More than 99.8 percent of all households in Hesse are already supplied with the fast LTE standard. Significantly more than 95 percent of households could receive the networks of all three providers.

Almost 94 percent of Hessian households received the powerful 5G mobile communications standard from at least one of the three providers, explained Sinemus. Since the beginning of 2022, around 600 5G measures have been carried out in Hesse, which have enabled data transmission up to ten times faster than LTE.

In Hesse, a nationwide fiber optic network has also been created in almost every district, said the digital minister. The expansion of mobile communications also benefits from this, since it can be used to connect mobile communications masts.
