Hesse: Parents of daycare children get state-wide representation

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - In Hesse there will in future be a state parent representation for all mothers and fathers of daycare children. A draft law by the government factions was passed in the state parliament in Wiesbaden on Wednesday evening with the votes of the CDU, Greens and FDP. The left voted against the law, SPD and AfD abstained.

The parents of children in day care should also be represented on the planned committee. The mothers and fathers should be supported with the state parents' representation in networking and exchanging experiences with each other.

Through the state parents' representation, they should be heard in all important state decisions on childcare and be able to have a say in the relevant committees. The law also regulates that parents' representatives can be elected at municipal level and at the level of the 33 youth welfare agencies in Hesse. The law is scheduled to come into force on January 1, 2023.
