Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - In an apartment fire in Frankfurt, the police made an unexpected find: in the apartment of a 31-year-old, they found large amounts of drugs and cash. The operation on Saturday night was caused by a kitchen fire, which probably started from an open stove, the police said on Monday. Nobody was hurt.

After the fire was extinguished, the police found around 220 grams of hashish, around 25 grams of cannabis and around 8 grams of cocaine in the apartment, as well as several thousand euros in cash and several mobile phones, it said.

The 31-year-old has since been arrested. He is now being investigated on suspicion of negligent arson and illegal trade in narcotics. The fire caused property damage of several thousand euros.
