Hesse: Police report attacks on Naples fans before Eintracht game

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - In the run-up to the Champions League game between Eintracht Frankfurt and SSC Naples, supporters of the Hessian Bundesliga club attacked Italian fans. As the police announced on Tuesday, there had already been two violent attacks on guest fans on Monday.

First, a group of Frankfurt violent criminals hit three Neapolitan fans in front of a pub in the Sachsenhausen district. About two hours later, around 20 attackers beat three Italians who were just leaving a bar in the same place. In both cases, the victims sustained only minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

When several suspicious groups were subsequently checked, the police briefly arrested nine men who were wearing quartz sand gloves, balaclavas and face masks. Among them were well-known perpetrators of violence, but also persons who had not yet come to light. In addition, the police gave 22 other people places. Around 2,600 Naples fans are expected in Frankfurt for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday evening (9 p.m.).
