Hesse: Politicians want more staff for overburdened courts

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - More staff for the Hessian judiciary: With more judges and public prosecutors, the state government wants to prevent further cancellations of arrest warrants due to lengthy proceedings. Just a few weeks ago, the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court ordered the release of six suspected criminals because the proceedings were too long. Two jury chambers had previously indicated that the presidium of the regional court was overloaded, said Justice Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) in response to a small request from the AfD. As a rule, such overload notifications are not forwarded to the ministry.

One case in the most recent cancellation of arrest warrants involved four suspects. On July 3, 2021, after a dispute, they are said to have tried to kill two people and seriously injured them. According to a publication by the German Association of Judges, at least 66 suspects were released from custody nationwide last year because the proceedings were too long.
