Hesse: Poschmann becomes the town clerk of Bergen-Enkheim

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - The writer Marion Poschmann becomes the town clerk of Bergen-Enkheim. "In her novels, the poetic word explorations and the creation of new imaginary spaces captivate, and she noticeably likes to play melancholic, bizarre and lustful with romantic motifs," the jury justified its decision on Thursday evening. Poschmann sees himself as committed to a "nature poetry" that "necessarily has to react to economic and social changes".

The Stadtschreiberpreis is named after a district of Frankfurt. It was the first of its kind in the German-speaking world in 1974 and has been imitated many times since then. The name comes from the fact that the formerly independent city of Bergen-Enkheim was only incorporated into Frankfurt in 1977.

A jury of writers and citizens of Bergen-Enkheim decides on the winner. The price includes the right of residence in the house "An der Oberpforte 4" for one year and prize money of 20,000 euros. The new laureate will take office in 2022. The acting town clerk is Dorothee Elmiger, who was shortlisted for the German Book Prize with "Aus der Zuckerfabrik".
