Hesse: Presentation with horse: new trams presented

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - Old meets new: together with a horse-drawn model that was common in the 19th century, brand new trams have been presented in Frankfurt. Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF) has ordered a total of 58 "Citadis SX05" vehicles. They will be on the move in the Main metropolis from the timetable change next Sunday - and in addition to barrier-free access, they should offer more space, including for bicycles, prams and wheelchairs.

At the presentation of the new railways on Friday, the VGF also drove up vehicles from the museum. The horse trams were in service from 1872 to 1904 and each had room for 16 passengers. There was no standing room because of the rather bumpy ride on the "Frankfurter Trambahn". In the meantime, more than 900 horses were in action. Horse-drawn omnibuses were already on the road in Frankfurt.
