Hesse: Prime Minister: Frankfurt deserves better leadership

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Hesse's Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) reacted with relief to the announced resignation of Frankfurt Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD). "It's good that he has finally announced his resignation," Rhein told the "Wiesbadener Kurier" in the Friday edition. "Frankfurt deserves far better political leadership."

"I have no glee, just great pity for my hometown," said the head of government. As the largest financial center in continental Europe and as the largest transport hub in Hesse, Frankfurt is such an economically and financially important city that "the political situation it is in must be of concern to you".

"But that was foreseeable when this coalition was founded," said Rhein. "A coalition that hasn't achieved much so far. And a Lord Mayor, Peter Feldmann, who can drive you to despair." Feldmann wants to comment this Friday (12:00 p.m.) on his planned retirement from the office of mayor of Hesse’s largest city at the beginning of 2023. The SPD politician is accused of corruption allegations.
